Fall Semester Undergraduate Interns

Wike Project Internship

Position

The National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty (NLCHP) is seeking a motivated, highly organized undergraduate to intern with NLCHP 15 to 35 hours per week during the fall. The internship will provide the student with the chance to learn about homelessness and poverty in the United States while increasing their writing, training, organizational and outreach skills.

 

NLCHP has created a Wiki Homeless Law and Advocacy Website in order to strengthen the movement to end and prevent homelessness in the nation's capital, and to bring about improved results for the nation's homeless and at-risk individuals and families. This internship will involve work with this project. Please see http://wiki.nlchp.org

 

Responsibilities
-
Upload documents and create links to content on partner websites

-Review wiki pages and correct formatting errors

-Conduct outreach to potential partner organizations and encourage their participation in the wiki project

-Provide training to staff at partner organizations to enable them to edit, link and upload content

-Review wiki design and make recommendations for design improvements


Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be a mature, organized undergraduate with a passion for social justice and a desire to develop their communications, policy and outreach skills. Applicants should possess strong oral, written and organizational skills, as well as proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, and Internet and other research tools.  Prior experience with html, blogs or wiki preferred. The internship is unpaid.

Communications Internship

Position:
The National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty (NLCHP) is seeking a motivated, highly organized undergraduate to intern with NLCHP during Fall 2008. The internship will provide the student with the chance to learn about homelessness and poverty in the United States while increasing their communications, outreach, research and organizational skills.

The intern's responsibilities will include the following:
- Develop and maintain media lists
- Track coverage of NLCHP in the media
- Draft media advisories and press releases
- Draft copy for NLCHP website
- Edit audio files for NLCHP website
- Help with support/outreach/registration for trainings and conferences
- Help analyze the effectiveness of NLCHP's communication tools
- Format NLCHP publications for release
- Work on NLCHP wikipedia
- Assist with increasing NLCHP's presence on the internet and keep existing materials updated

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be a mature, organized undergraduate with a passion for social justice and a desire to develop their communications skills. Applicants should possess strong oral, written, and organizational skills, as well as proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; internet and other research tools; and data management. The internship is unpaid.  Start and end date are flexible.
