Homeless Advocate John Joyce Passes Away
February 19, 2013
John Joyce, a fierce advocate for homeless persons and co-author of Rhode Island's Homeless Bill of Rights, has passed away at the age of 50.
The Law Center was privileged to work last year with John's Rhode Island Homeless Advocacy Project and the Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless to pass the groundbreaking Homeless Bill of Rights, which outlaws discrimination based on housing status. And in November, we proudly honored John for his work with the Bruce F. Vento Award at our annual dinner.
John, himself previously homeless, respected and fought for the dignity of all people. A compassionate man and a highly effective advocate, he worked every day to help others in need. And though he is gone, his legacy will live on.
The Law Center extends its sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
