A Model for the U.S.?

France Proclaims Legal Right to Housing

Following weeks of protests by homeless advocates camping in red tents in Paris and throughout France, French President Jacques Chirac promised during an address to pass a law guaranteeing a legal right to housing.

On, February 22, 2007, the French parliament passed the bill making housing a right on par with education in French law.  It allows individuals to sue the state if they have no adequate place to live.
