Testimony for the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights

Human Right to Housing in the U.S.

This testimony details the failure of the U.S. federal government, over a number of decades, to adequately address the need for affordable housing in this country and the impact that failure has had on the lives of millions of Americans.  A number of concerns relevant to U.S. compliance with its treaty obligations, namely under the Convention Against Torture (CAT), the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD), which arise as a result of federal, state, and local governments approach to housing and homelessness.
