Resolution Recognzing the 20th Anniversary of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act
The U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution recognizing the
20th anniversary of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and
the need for Congress to do more to address homelessness. The resolution (H.Res. 561) was introduced by
Reps. Christopher Shays (R-CT) and
Maxine Waters (D-CA).
The resolution recognizes not only the
important aid provided by the McKinney Act, but also the need to go beyond the
emergency measures provided by the Act. The McKinney Act was intended to be
just a first step in addressing homelessness, but twenty years after its
enactment it remains the only major, coordinated federal response to
homelessness.
