Funding for Homeless Children and Youth Programs (Fiscal Year 2008)
Latest Action: On July 19, the House of Representatives passed its version of the appropriations bill for Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education. The legislation included $66.9 million for the McKinney-Vento Education for Homeless Children and Youth program and $112.9 million for the Runaway and Homeless Youth Act programs.
Whats Next: The Senate and the House will be working to reconcile their two funding bills in September when they return from an August recessthey must reach an agreement on funding levels for the federal programs. The final bill must be approved and signed by the president. President Bush has previously threatened to veto funding increases for domestic programs.
