Testimony About McKinney Act Reauthorization
Before the Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunities House Committee on Financial Services
2007 marked the 20th Anniversary of the
enactment of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. While they were never intended as a sole
solution to homelessness, for the past 20 years the McKinney-Vento Act
programs have made a substantial difference in the lives of millions of
homeless Americans.
But for too long,
the programs administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development have not been reauthorized. In her testimony, Maria Foscarinis said that now is the time to reauthorize and improve the programs and she discusses the legislation that could make this happen.
