Strategies for Education Advocacy

Using the McKinney-Vento Act

The McKinney-Vento Act confers a variety of rights on children, youth and parents experiencing homelessness.  Its provisions permit advocates to seek broad, systemic reform, compliance in a particular case, or both.  This memorandum outlines advocacy strategies under the Act, from informal monitoring and enforcement to litigation strategies and tips. (NLCHP, 2004)
