Presented at the Nov. 8, 2009 National Forum on the Human Right to Housing
FW: Testimony from November 8th Town Hall with UN S.R. RolnikOn
November 8th and 9th, 2009, more than 150 advocates from 20 states gathered in
Washington, DC for the National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty's
2009 National Forum on the Human Right to Housing. The highlight of this
year's conference was the National Town Hall on the Right to Housing, where more
than two dozen homeless and low-income persons and other advocates presented
testimony to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing, Raquel
Rolnik, who made the Forum the final stop on her two week tour of the U.S.
Ms. Rolnik had visited six sites during her eighteen day mission: New York
City, Chicago, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Pine Ridge (Indian Land), and
Washington, DC. NLCHP facilitated the first day of the Forum to provide a venue
for Ms. Rolnik to interact with individuals and organizations from areas beyond
the six site visits.
