2009 National Forum on the Human Right to Housing Follow Up Report
NLCHP hosted its National Forum on the Human Right to Housing November 8-9 at Georgetown University Law Center. The forum featured a national town hall meeting with UN Special Rapporteur Raquel Rolnik, followed by a full day of workshops led by advocates for the homeless and the right to housing.
The forum provided advocates with the opportunity to offer testimony to the Special Rapporteur and share their experiences during her visit. The 150 participants in the conference also attended workshops to learn more about applying a human rights approach to a wide variety of housing and homelessness issues. These workshops addressed a range of topics from "Intersectional Challenges in Access to Housing" to "Health Care as a Human Right" and were hosted by an array of advocates representing national and international organizations.
This report includes a summary of the content of the forum, as well as a set of conclusions and next steps, and resources from the gathering.
