Letter USDA in Support of New York State Food Waiver Request

Homeless persons frequently have difficulty obtaining the documentation that is necessary to complete the food stamp application process.  In addition, their lack of a permanent address can also be a barrier to completing an application or receiving notices from Social Security Administration (SSA) offices.  These problems can occur even when homeless individuals are already receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits.

This document is a letter from NLCHP to the U.S. Department of Agriculture requesting their support of a New York State food stamp waiver request that would automatically enroll SSI recipients who live alone in the food stamp program.
