NLCHP Amicus Brief Challenging the California Department of Social ServicesÂ’ (DSS) Failure to Follow
In 2002, NLCHP filed an amicus brief with the U.S. Court of
Appeals in a lawsuit challenging the California Department of Social Services
(DSSs) failure to follow federal law and regulations when evaluating
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) claims.
The lawsuit also named the Social Security Administration
(SSA) as a defendant, for failing to comply with its mandated oversight
responsibility of ensuring that DSS follows SSAs governing law and regulations.
