Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church et al. v. The City of New York et al.

NLCHP, the Partnership for the Homeless (NY), and the Urban Justice Center (NY) filed an amicus curiae (friend of the court) brief supporting the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Churchs outreach to homeless people in New York City.

The brief contends that the churchs outreach ministry, which serves its homeless neighbors, is afforded First Amendment protection because its ministry is a fundamental part of the Churchs sincerely held religious beliefs. In addition, the churchs outreach is consistent with well-established basic principles of homeless outreach work, a proven effective method in the care and service to homeless persons, and provides a vital function for its homeless neighbors.
